DVD Review: CURANDERO: DAWN OF THE DEMON

CURANDERO: DAWN OF THE DEMON  is an action-packed horror flick that takes a couple on a horrifying journey through the deepest bowels of the Mexican underworld. When beautiful federal agent Magdalena calls upon the local curandero for his services to purify a police station, the two of suddenly find themselves immersed in a satanic cult’s blood-thirsty battleground.

The movie is totally non-stop action and the story is exciting plus it has a few twists along the way. It’s one of those movies where you think you know where it is going and who is what and then it completely goes in a new direction.  There are bullets flying everywhere, people turning on one another while a demon slowly reveals itself in this dark supernatural thriller that never lets up until the very end.

There are some really graphic scenes in the movie that some fans will get a kick out of, while others had better look the other way.  The special effects are really well done and are and added plus in the film, like a fitted glove, especially on the creature reveal. The setting and scenery also make the movie even more of an enjoyable watch, almost cult like.

Curanddero was written by Robert Rodriguez who also co-produced the flick which was the very first thing that caught my attention for this movie and he came through with flying colors. This guy’s imagination is one of the best out there today and the story he has told is dark, gritty and demonic.

Bottom line is, Curandero: Dawn Of The Demon is a cool horror movie that keeps you on pins and needles until the very end. I know there are some folks out there who don’t like subtitles or dubs but you really should give this one a chance. The DVD drops on Tuesday, MArch 12th so be sure you check it out!
