DVD Review: RED DOG
Adapted from the Louis de Bernières best-selling novel, RED DOG, based on a true story, follows a legend among the wild outback locals. A dog that wonders around with no owner until he finally finds the person he’s been searching for…Sometimes you pick the dog. Sometimes the dog picks you!
The story is told by some locals in a bar while Red Dog lies there in its last minutes or what they think are its last minutes. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that sad because the story takes off and we get to watch the wild adventures this dog has on his journey to find the right person. Along the way the dog also meets its match with Red Cat, a feline who is as territorial as any animal you’ll ever see. These two animals go at it and their rivalry also becomes legend of the Outback. These scenes between this dog and cat are some of the best in the movie! Think, a wild west showdown.
The light-hearted k9 adventure has a great cast that includes Josh Lucas, Rachael Taylor, Noah Taylor, Keisha Castle-Hughes, Paul Blackwell, Luke Ford, Bill Hunter, Tiffany Lyndall-Knight and Koko as the famous Red Dog who really steals the show.
The film is directed by Kriv Stenders who does a great job telling this story. The location is beautiful. If you’re curious about Red Dog, think Lassie with a very small touch of Old Yeller but not as sad as Old Yeller, not at all!
Bottom line is, I kind of enjoyed Red Dog. I think the kiddos will like this one so be sure you give this one a chance. The DVD is a Wal-Mart exclusive here in the U.S. and is available now.
