Movie Review: THE FUNHOUSE (Collector’s Edition) Blu-ray
Tobe Hooper‘s THE FUNHOUSE is one of my classic horror favorites that has been given a “Collector’s Edition” treatment by the mega awesome Scream Factory, Shout! Factory’s new horror arm.
Who doesn’t want to spend a night in a creepy old funhouse? Of course, the movie is set in a creepy old fair with rebellious teens and a creepy man in a Frankenstein suit who never speaks and ends up becoming something deadly to everyone around him, all because of premature ejaculation by the local psychic, that’ll get you every time will it not! Can you believe it?
The fair/funhouse setting is really cool, dark and atmospheric. The story is somewhat typical with the teens getting in way too deep but that’s what we expect from movies like this one. I love the big bad guy in this one because he wears a horror icon mask covering up his face which would also make a great mask, oh wait! He’s not like the maniacs who preceded him because there’s a sense of innocence that comes with this killer. I also enjoyed the cheap thrills and the kills in the movie and that’s what horror fans want along with a crazy masked or deformed maniac!
As far as the transfer goes, Scream Factory once again has gone above and beyond with the transfer to Blu-ray with picture and sound. The standout out you ask? It is the extras, they are simply amazing! I love the new interviews along with the classic trailer, TV spots and more. You’ll see below. Let’s not forget about the amazing cover at by Thomas Nathan Milliner who delivers a classic new look for the film like he has done for many other entries from Scream Factory.
The Funhouse is directed by Tobe Hooper, written by Larry Block and stars Elizabeth Berridge, Kevin Conway, William Finley, Southern Mississippi University football star Cooper Huckabee, and two-time Academy Award-nominee Sylvia Miles. I know there are lots of fans out there who are already aware of The Funhouse but it’s one of the lessor known horror gems and hopefully a new generation of horror fans will be introduced to it and enjoy it as much as I have.
Bottom line is, The Funhouse (Collector’s Edition) [Blu-ray] is a perfect addition to any horror fans movie collection. This is really a “Collector’s Edition” that will be available on October 16th.
